Night Out In Sofia

Friend Hogglez told us to contact his buddy Keith in Sophia.  Keith graciously picked Kev & I up at the airport.  We met Kevin's friend, Dan, from the Peace Corps at the hotel.  Dan lives in Luxembourg.  Keith showed us around town.
View from hotel balcony:
Big beer:
Keith lives in a "green zone," as his neighborhood is full of embassies, and his next door neighbor is the U.S. ambassador. (Strangely enough, he said Russian oil concern, Lukoil, has a place right next to the U.S. embassy, where Bulgarian emissaries can easily go back and forth...)
Dan and Keith both have trilingual, school age children.  Here they are hashing out the various schooling options...German school, IB, public, private...
Kevin showing us he can count:
Dinner of smoked salmon, tomato and cheese sandwiches, meatballs in tomato sauce, and chilled white wine were perfect for a hot, muggy night.

Here is Andrew realizing the menu is in another language yet still being able to communicate with a trusty high-five.

Street protests have been forming the past few nights as reported mobster was appointed to head of FBI-type agency.

Ended the night with a traditional drink, rakia.  Can alternately be used to remove nail polish.

  1. Dan looks passionate, like he's trying some of that Marxist social-reproduction theory on Keith. And together you guys look like an Associated Press crew in search of trouble. Awesome night.
